Most crown moulding is designed to be invisible. It bridges the wall-to-ceiling corner, hides the crack and the painter's tape line, and nobody looks at it twice. The Rams Crown BTP068 was not designed for that job. Its profile is a ram's-horn scroll-a double-curve silhouette that catches light differently across its face, casts a genuine shadow line where the wall meets the ceiling, and reads as an architectural feature rather than a trim piece.

Walk into a room with flat, rectangular crown moulding and your eye goes to the furniture, the windows, the art on the walls. Walk into a room with a ram's-horn profile at the ceiling line and your eye goes up. The scroll does two things a standard flat crown cannot: the concave sweep catches ambient light and holds it, while the convex roll at the bottom edge breaks the visual plane and creates a shadow line that makes the ceiling feel higher and the room feel more finished. This is not decoration. It is one of the oldest tricks in architectural proportion, and it works on every wall height it is applied to.

The BTP068 is one of three crown profiles in the BODO® line, sitting between the smaller BTP49 and the larger BTP47. At 2 inches of height, it suits standard residential ceiling heights without overwhelming them-tall enough to register as intentional, compact enough to avoid the heavy, top-heavy look that oversized crown can impose on an 8- or 9-foot room.

A moulding dimension that reads like a fraction from a carpenter's notebook is easy to gloss over. But the projection depth-the distance the profile extends outward from the wall-is the single number that determines how the moulding performs visually. A shallow projection of half an inch or less sits almost flat against the wall and reads as a decorative strip, not a crown. The BTP068 projects 1-13/32 inches. A wood crown with this profile would be beautiful on installation day and a recurring maintenance item thereafter. Wood moves with humidity. In a room with seasonal moisture swings-every room that has walls and a roof-those mitered corners open and close microscopic gaps with every cycle. Paint bridges the gap for a while, then cracks along the joint line. The crown that looked seamless at handover is telegraphing every corner by year two or three. Fixing it means scaffolding, scraping, caulking, and repainting-up a ladder, at the ceiling line, in a finished room with furniture underneath.

The PVC version eliminates the cycle. It is waterproof and dimensionally stable in the ways that matter-it does not absorb moisture, does not swell or shrink seasonally, and does not rot if a roof leak or a bathroom above introduces water to the ceiling cavity. A glued PVC miter joint chemically welds into a single continuous piece that moves as one unit, so the corner that looked seamless at installation still looks seamless years later. And the surface arrives white and finished. No painting is required. A wipe with a damp cloth is the entire maintenance protocol.

The one installation rule that separates a PVC crown installation that lasts from one that does not can be stated in a single sentence, and it is the sentence most contractors need to hear before their first PVC job: every mitered joint must be glued and mechanically fastened. Glue alone will not hold long term because PVC expands and contracts with temperature more than wood does. Nails alone will not hold because thermal movement will eventually open a hairline gap at every unglued corner. But a joint that is both glued with PVC cement and backed by stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized nails becomes one continuous piece that moves together-and that joint stays closed for the life of the installation.
