The initial research and attempts on polyvinyl chloride were in the mid-19th century. In 1898, German chemist Eugene Baumann first tried to polymerize vinyl chloride. PVC was industrialized in the early 1930s. Since the 1930s, PVC production has ranked first in the world's plastic consumption for a long time. In the late sixties, polyethylene replaced polyvinyl chloride.
