Three PVC Sheet Formats, Three Different Jobs
The word "PVC sheet" covers three products that behave differently under the same tool. Picking the wrong one is the most common and most expensive sourcing mistake.
Light, closed-cell core. Routes and prints cleanly. Density 0.45–0.80 g/cm³. The default choice for signage, display, crafts and cabinet liners.
Denser and harder, with better chemical resistance and screw-holding. Density 0.90–1.20 g/cm³. Used for fabrication, tanks, ducting and protective panels.
A foam core with a decorative film bonded to the face. Woodgrain, marble or solid colour. Ready-to-finish for furniture, cabinetry and wall linings.
A laminated sheet arrives with the finished face already applied, so the fabricator skips the coating step.
Typical Properties
Values below are measured on our standard foam grade at 10–30 mm thickness. Sheets are tested in-house per pallet, and we quote the measured figure on request rather than a nominal one.

Reading the fire row correctly. UL-94 V-0 means the sample self-extinguishes in a vertical burn test. It is not a building fire classification, and it says nothing about smoke generation.
Where a project is subject to fire regulation, ask for the classification the assembly needs to meet rather than for V-0 alone.
Where PVC Sheet Gets Used
Direct-print, UV-print and vinyl-mount substrates. Flat, dimensionally stable and screw-fix ready for display stands and POS units.
Laminated sheets for cabinet doors, carcasses and interior linings. Does not swell with humidity, unlike MDF or particleboard.
Wall cladding, ceiling panels and utility room partitions. Water absorption of 0.5% over seven days makes it a natural fit where moisture rules out wood.
Chemical-resistant tanks, ductwork, machine guards and liners where the rigid grade's density and weldability are the deciding factors.
A matte, printable face is what makes foam sheet the default signage substrate.
The same core, finished with a film, moves from signage into furniture and cabinetry.
One limit worth stating plainly. PVC sheet resists moisture and does not rot, so exterior trim, signage and non-structural cladding are all reasonable uses. It is a sheet product, not a roofing or structural siding material, and it should not be specified as either.

A container of sheet is a volume problem, not a weight one. Mixing formats and thicknesses in one load is usually what moves the landed cost per sheet.
Interleaved sheets, corner-protected pallets and moisture-wrapped bundles. Edge damage in transit is almost always a packing failure rather than a handling one.

Q1: What is the difference between foam and rigid PVC sheet?
A: Foam sheet has a closed-cell core with density between 0.45 and 0.80 g/cm³. It is lighter, easier to route and the standard choice for signage. Rigid solid sheet runs 0.90 to 1.20 g/cm³, is harder, holds screws better and resists chemicals. The deciding factor is usually the mechanical load the part has to carry.
Q2: How thick can PVC sheet be supplied?
A: From 1 mm to 30 mm depending on format. The mechanical values published on this page were measured on our standard foam grade between 10 and 30 mm. Very thin sheets and very thick rigid blocks are both possible, but they sit on different production lines and carry different minimum quantities.
Q3: Can PVC sheet be used outdoors?
A: Yes for exterior trim, signage and non-structural cladding, because the material does not rot, absorb water or corrode. It is not a roofing or structural siding product, and it should not be specified as either. For an exposed facade, confirm the fixing method and the expected thermal movement before ordering.
Q4: Is PVC sheet fire rated?
A: Our standard grade tests to UL-94 V-0, which means the sample self-extinguishes in a vertical burn test. That is a material test, not a building classification. PVC also generates smoke, which is a separate consideration. Where a project is subject to fire regulation, tell us the classification the assembly must meet.
Q5: Do you supply cut-to-size sheets?
A: Yes. Standard size is 1220 × 2440 mm, and cut-to-size runs are cut from the same production batch. Cut sheets are packed in the sequence they will be used, which saves a cutting step and a waste allowance at your end.
Q6: Can I get a sample before ordering?
A: Yes. We send a free sample set covering rigid, foam and laminated formats in the thickness you want to test, together with the current datasheet. Density and cut edge are the two things worth checking physically, because neither can be judged from a photograph.
Q7: What is the minimum order?
A: Standard sizes and common densities ship at one 40HQ container. Custom density, colour or film raises the minimum. We confirm the MOQ and the per-sheet price together so you can compare true landed cost rather than the unit price alone.
